University plans to bring B.A., B.Com and B.Sc degree courses under the semester scheme from the next academic year
MANGALORE: Accounting practitioners and academic institutions should keep pace with changes in Information Technology, said K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University, here on Saturday. Speaking at the valedictory of a two-day a South India level seminar on "Accounting practices: an interaction between professionals and academicians" at St. Aloysius College, he said that globalisation has brought many changes. To keep pace with it, the accounting procedures should also change. Graduates of commerce, accountancy, management and business are most sought after by many industries. Chartered accountants are the backbone of any industry. At this juncture, both the professionals and authorities in academic institutions should keep pace with the changes. Dr. Kaveriappa said that the university plans to bring B.A., B.Com and B.Sc degree courses under the semester scheme from the next academic year. Hence it had to revise the syllabus of B.Com course. The professionals in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) can give their suggestions to make the syllabus practical and more relevant. Due to changes in many sectors, there is a need for academic institutions to revise the syllabus of courses. Otherwise such courses will become outdated. The seminar was organised by the Faculty of Commerce of the College and Mangalore chapter of the ICAI.
