BANGALORE: Two persons murdered a sleeping watchman of a temple and took away Rs. 2,000 in cash and a few valuables in Doddabanasawadi in the early hours of Sunday. The police gave the name of the watchman as Eshwarachar (45), a resident of Doddabanasawadi. According to the police, the two burglars came into the old Anjaneya temple and saw Eshwarachar sleeping near the office. Fearing that he may shout for help, a burglar hit Eshwarachar with an iron rod around his neck. The watchman died in the temple premises. The burglars later broke open a cupboard and took away the cash and valuables estimated at Rs. 2,000. The burglars tried in vain to break the offertory, the police said. The priest noticed the body of Eshwarachar in the morning and lodged a complaint with the Basawadi police station.
