KOCHI: Goshree Bus Service Samara Samiti, formed on Sunday at the instance of the Goshree Action Council, will hold a dharna on February 10 at the Kinco Jetty junction in the city to press for extending bus services to and from the islands to the city. Convener of the action council Majnu Komath said here that the new organisation was formed at a meeting in which people from different walks of life and owing allegiance to various political parties attended. M.A. Kuttappan and K.V. Thomas, MLAs, and S. Sarma, former Minister were among those who spoke at the meeting organised at Thekkan Malippuram on Sunday. Mr. Komath said that Sebastian Paul, MP, would be among the patrons of the new organisation, which would spearhead a new spell of protest against the decision of the district transport authorities not to extend bus services via the Goshree bridges to the city. He said that unless the bus services became a reality, the people of the islands would not enjoy the full benefit of the Goshree bridges. Currently, buses from the islands terminate their services at the High Court Junction from where people are forced to walk to the Banerjee Road. The new Samiti will chalk out a plan of action if the authorities did not heed their plea, added Mr. Komath. MLAs and leaders of various political parties would attend the evening dharna on February 10, he added. The City Police had opposed the extension of bus services from the islands to the city.
