Medical team visits Kannanthura

Thiruvananthapuram: A team of Health officials led by the District Medical Officer visited Kannanthura in the district where chicken pox had assumed epidemic proportions. About 40 persons had been afflicted by the disease and they have since recovered. 16 new cases have been reported again. Health officials conducted medical and awareness camps in the area. People have been told about the need to maintain personal and environmental hygiene and to isolate the diseased so that the spread of the disease can be contained. - Staff Reporter

SBT zonal meeting

Thiruvananthapuram: The new reforms in the banking sector will benefit only the affluent, A. Sampath, former MP, has said. He was inaugurating the zonal meeting of State Bank of Travancore Staff Union here on Sunday. SBT Staff Union president, K. G. James presided over the function. - Staff Reporter

IT Kerala fair registration

Thiruvananthapuram: Registration facilities have been made available for those who have completed their studies in Information Technology, at the Job Mart being held in connection with the third IT Kerala fair being held at Kochi Infopark from January 31 to February 4, IT Secretary P.H. Kurien has said. The facility is available at the website www.itkerala2006.com. The interview date for those who have registered will be informed through e-mail. Consumer forum charge

Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Jilla Upabhokthru Samithi has demanded that an inquiry be conducted into the manner in which the so-called margin-free shops have been mushrooming in the district. Several sub-standard and unlicensed products are being sold through these shops with the label margin-free to dupe consumers, the Samithi alleged. - Staff Reporter

Killed in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: Sanathanan, 40, residing on College Road, Nedumangad was killed when the motorbike he was riding was hit by a tempo van running parallel service, near Nedumangad junction, late night on Sunday. The body has been kept in the mortuary of Medical College Hospital. - Staff Reporter

Found dead

Thiruvananthapuram: Anilkumar, 35, of Thettiyam, Andoorkonam, was found dead after having consumed poison. In another incident, Kamalabhavan Pillai, 55 of Alamcode, was found dead after having have consumed poison. - Staff Reporter
