Kakinada: The sun is the source of unlimited energy that can be tapped applying various technologies creating a solid base for rural development, said Prof T. S. Surendra, a former World Bank resources person on renewable energy sources. Delivering a lecture on "Solar photovoltaic technologies in rural development" at the concluding session of the four-day long `Concours-2006' -- a National level technical fiesta organised by the CSI chapter of Kakinada Institute of Engineering and Technology (KIET) here on Monday -- he said the latest development in photovoltaic technologies and its application were relevant to India. Solar energy and capacity building initiatives, he said, were very much essential for future generations. He explained about various power generation systems such as magneto hydro dynamics power generation, hydro energy, fuel cells and geo-thermal fields. He gave a brief history of solar energy systems and various developments in the solar energy generation.
