TIRUCHI: The role of books as man's best friend, knowledge supplier, and skill enhancer has been focussed at the ongoing ten-day book exhibition, `Mega Book Fair 2006', at the St. Joseph's College Higher Secondary School. According to the organisers, Sumathy Publications, Aakam Trust and the Tamil Nadu Book Sellers Association, the book exhibition is replete with a variety of books, catering to the requirements of people of all age groups. Cultural events, religious discourse, and lectures also form part of the book fair, said an organiser, adding that enquiries from prospective buyers are encouraging. For the buyers, the fair is indicative of the ever-increasing demand for quality books. T.G.R. Vasanthakumar, president of the association, says, "The exhibition reflects the experience the organisers had gained in ascertaining the demand for quality books and in identifying voracious readers."Books on a spectrum of subjects like agriculture, astrology to export and zoology, fiction, science, novels from publishers like the Diamond Publications, Bharathi pathippagam, Manivasagar pathippagam, Naveena Velanmai, Oxford, Higginbothams, etc., and the sale of compact discs are some of the special features of the exhibition. Much sought after are the CDs on equilibrium thoughts, and English language. "We have planned to organise the exhibition as an annual feature", added Mr. Vasanthkumar. Lyricist P. Vijay released a few books.
