Showcasing fashion with a French flavour

Lakshmi B. Ghosh

NEW DELHI: Promising fashion with a French flavour, the annual festival of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), "Fashion Spectrum 2006'', takes off here in the Capital this Wednesday.

The three-day-long festival will showcase not just creations by the institute's talented students but also see a number of workshops being held on hair styling and makeovers, apart from music and dance contests, street plays and quiz competitions.

With the land of the world fashion capital being the running theme of the festival this year, a number of events have been planned to mark it. According to NIFT, France has been chosen as the theme because of its "long exercised deep fascination over many of the world's great creative minds''.

From a French fiesta and dance to a fashion show on February 1, the event will see a number of famous designers and eminent personality coming together. From Shehnaz Hussain judging the hair and styling competition to Nitin Arora from Radio City anchoring the antakshari, it promises a lively event. MTV video jockey Nikhil Chinnapa will be the DJ for the prom night.

But the real show stealer will be a performance by Pakistani rock band "Strings'' that promises to make it a musical night to remember on February 3. With makeovers fast becoming a national craze, "Fashion Spectrum 2006'' will provide ample scope for those wanting to go for an all-new look.

The world renowned L'Oreal will take charge as 15 girls are worked upon, while well-known designers like Ranna Gill, Manju and Bobby Grover, Ashish Soni and Anshu Arora Sen would be helping students with their design collections. The festival will also see a leather design show displaying creations of 16 designers.
