Calls for optimum utilisation of gas and oil reserves in the K-G basin

ELURU: The `padayatra' launched by the Alluri Sitarama Raju Gas Adharitha Parisramala Sadhana Samithi at Darbharevu in Narsapur mandal on January 21, reached here on Monday after traversing through a number of villages and towns. The samithi wants industrial development in West and East Godavari districts by harnessing gas and oil reserves in the Krishna-Godavari basin.

Meet MLAs

The yatriks en route met Palacole MLA T. Satyanarayana Murthy (Babji) of Telugu Desam Party, his Bhimavaram and Undi counterparts of Congress Grandhi Srinivas and Pathapati Sarraju respectively and sought to enlist their support for the cause of the samithi. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Collector Lav Agarwal.

Samithi convener G.V. Satyanarayana Raju emphasised the need for optimum utilisation of gas and oil reserves available in the K-G basin for industrial development in the twin Godavari districts. The State-owned and private companies engaged in exploring oil and gas in the basin should ensure that the exploited gas and oil were not diverted till the local demands were met, he said.
