Chilli farmers suffer losses

Staff Reporter

Disease hits crop in Nellore district

Nellore: While successive rainfall in the district have brought cheers to different sections of community, it also brought distress to a section of farmers in Nellore district.

Among the affected are the farmers raising chillies in interior areas of Udayagiri, Rapur and Atmakur areas, as along with rain, the emergence of disease has hit the crop.

After having invested considerable amount on raising the crop, in addition to spending on pest control, farmers are now a dejected lot. Added to this, the market rate is also not motivating. While a measure of chillies was earlier quoted at Rs. 30, now it came down to a mere Rs. 6.
