Leprosy on its way out, say health officials

CHENNAI:
The Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine held a leprosy awareness campaign at Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science on Monday. DPH officials stressed the need for seeking treatment at the Corporation health centres.
From the elimination stage we have moved to the eradication stage, said M. Ramani, health inspector of the department. Currently in Tamil Nadu less than one in 10,000 people suffered from the disease, he said.
Adyar Deputy Commissioner of Police Baladandayuthapani and Deputy Director of Medical Services (Leprosy) S. Pannerselvam participated.
