CHENNAI: A Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) that will provide "world class industry-oriented training in aircraft maintenance to students and make them industry-ready" is coming up in Hindustan College of Engineering, a private college, near Chennai. An agreement to launch the CORE was signed by KCG Verghese, Chairman, Hindustan Group of Institutions, and Anand Patwardhan, Executive Director - TIFAC, in New Delhi recently in the presence of V S Ramamurthy, Secretary, DST, and Deepak Bhatnagar, Advisor - TIFAC. Under the agreement, the modern training facility in aircraft maintenance will be set up at a cost of Rs. 13.72 crore. Students can choose from programmes, ranging from six months to two years, leading to certificate, diploma/post diploma courses in avionics, aircraft maintenance and snag rectification. Training will use a live aircraft, providing practical exposure to the students. It is also proposed to offer induction training programmes to technical staff of airline operators and aviation industry. The project will be jointly funded by the TIFAC, the Hindustan College of Engineering, and their industrial partners including Indamar Company, Mumbai, Aviators (India), Bangalore, Orient Flights, Pondicherry.
