CHENNAI:
"Dear Uncle, I really like our school. Please help us," read the message of one of the kindergarten students. This was one of the 700 messages that have been strung together by students of the Adarsh Senior Secondary School, in a 150-metre-long petition to the President, seeking his help to revoke an order from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) disaffiliating their institution.
Students from LKG to Class Twelve took three copies of their message, which would be sent to the President, the Prime Minister and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
In 2005, the Central Board withdrew the school's affiliation citing poor condition of the building. The Central Public Works Department inspected the school a few months ago and certified that the building was in good condition, said the Principal, S.K. Venkattassala Pandian.
The CBSE has however permitted students of classes X and XII this year to take up their board examinations in March. The Principal says the school management has moved the High Court against the building owner. The matter is pending in Court.
