Calls for facilitating better people-to-people contacts

BANGALORE: A five-member delegation from Pakistan, led by Education Minister of Sindh Province Hameed Khuhro, called on Mayor Mumtaz Begum at the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) head office here on Monday.

In an interaction with the Mayor, Dr. Khuhro pointed out that inter-city ties between India and Pakistan will facilitate better people-to-people contact and enable a more harmonious relationship.

"If we develop linkages between cities of India and Pakistan, it will help in furthering the ties between the two countries," she said.

Pointing out that people in Pakistan are looking forward for "strengthening of bonds" with India, Dr. Khuhro said that there are a lot of cultural similarities between India and Pakistan.

"It is because of these cultural similarities that cities of India and Pakistan should explore opportunities for developing together. Bangalore is noted for its technological advances and professional education. We are keen to look forward in mutual cooperation in these fields," she added.

The Mayor assured Dr. Khuhro that the BMP will extend all cooperation required for developing cordial relations between the two countries and also in areas of urban administration.

The delegation comprised Abdul Haleem Ansar, Rasheeda Pasha, Mahesh Lal Dodani and Abdul Qadir Junejo from Sindh Province.

The visit was organised by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.

Deputy mayor M Lakshminarayana, ruling party leader H. Ravindra, Opposition leader B.R. Nanjundappa, heads of various standing panels, Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam and Additional Commissioner Gaurav Gupta were present.
