DD commission

To get a DD for Rs.10, the bank demanded a charge of Rs.11. As DD is obtained for big amount, the charge is fixed at Rs.11 up to Rs.500.

Now that the fee for requisition to obtain information under the Right to Information Act 2005 is fixed by Government of India at Rs.10 by way of DD, as it goes along with the requisition (unlike money orders), banks should take up the matter with their administration to have the commission split and fixed at Rs.5 up to Rs.100.

Woes of pensioners

Retired persons drawing pension are considered as salaried persons since Income Tax laws are applicable to these persons also. They have to submit IT deductible from their pension payable on March (i.e., February pension). Otherwise, disbursement officer decides what is their IT and deducts it straightaway. Banks can withhold the pension payable in March and some banks do so. Other banks leave it to the pensioners and IT office. A booklet (for Rs.20) is normally available across the counter of IT office in Cantonment Circle. This year, there have been drastic changes and yet no information is available.

Bad road

Tiruvanaikoil, a significant tourism spot and pilgrim centre, is located on Tiruchi-Chennai Main Road NH 45.

The three-road junction at Tiruvanaikoil is very narrow and dilapidated. It will be a tough task for police to regulate traffic during rush hours. It is necessary to establish a signal and broaden the road as done in Mambazhasalai three years ago.

I request the authorities to regulate traffic at this spot. It will be extremely useful for vehicles coming to Tiruvanaikoil from Srirangam as they face problem in crossing the main road from Srirangam.

The bridge on Tiruchi-Tanjore Main Road near Asoor next to Thuvakudi is under repair and construction works are going on for a year. The temporary bypass road suffered damaged during the recent rain. The condition of the road has worsened. People are finding it difficult to drive their vehicles. I hope that action will be taken to rectify this damaged road.
