NEW DELHI: Angry Bharatiya Janata Party councillors on Monday gheraoed Mayor Satbir Singh at the Special House meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi after he refused to table the "action taken report" on unauthorised constructions carried out by prominent politicians including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Congress chief Ram Babu Sharma and some Delhi Ministers, MLAs and Councillors. Shouting slogans against the Delhi Government and the Congress, the BJP members also demanded resignation of Ms. Dikshit and her entire Cabinet alleging that they had lied to the people of Delhi about their illegal and unauthorised constructions. This outburst came after the Mayor refused to table the report at the end of a three-hour-long meeting called to discuss the issue of unauthorised constructions in the Capital including Lal Dora villages. "The report cannot be tabled as the matter was sub-judice," he maintained. At this, the BJP members ran into the well of the House and gheraoed Mr. Singh alleging that he was cheating the people by not exposing the "big fishes" who were also guilty of illegal constructions. "Before the commencement of the meeting the Mayor had promised to table the report after the discussion but later refused to do so. All Congress leaders and the civic body administration are working to conceal illegal structures of the party leaders," alleged Leader of Opposition Subhash Arya. He held the MCD lawyers responsible for not properly presenting the case of the civic body in court. Mr. Arya also announced that he would hold a day-long dharna at Town Hall in protest on Tuesday. BJP councillor Vijender Gupta, who first raised the issue of unauthorised and illegal constructions carried out by the Chief Minster, her MP son Sandeep Dikshit and other relatives, demanded that the Congress sack Ms. Dikshit and her entire Cabinet. "All claims of Ms. Dikshit that she had not violated building bylaws have been nailed in the MCD's action taken report," he demanded. Mr. Gupta also alleged that the MCD administration was still not acting responsibly and honestly. "It has continued with its pick-and-choose policy by targeting the common man and not penalising politicians and influential people. Similarly, illegal constructions are going on unabatedly across the city and its engineers are ignoring them by taking money," he alleged.
