PONDICHERRY: Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G. K. Vasan has assured the Pondicherry Government that he will ensure speedy sanction to development schemes proposed for Pondicherry. He said Pondicherry had grown impressively under the present Government. Hence, more programmes would be cleared, if they were pending for approval. Releasing a handbook on the achievements of the Pondicherry Government over the four and half years at a function here on Monday, Mr. Vasan said he was thrilled to participate in the function for several reasons. He said he was impressed with the speedy implementation of schemes by the Government for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and the poor. The former Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president, P. Shanmugham, received the first copy. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who unveiled a statue of Congress leader G. K Moopanar, recalled his close association with the late leaderAgriculture Minister A. Namassivayam; Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. V. Janakiraman; Members of Parliament M. Ramadoss and V. Narayanasamy; Local Administration Minister A. Elumalai; the Speaker M. D. R. Ramachandran; and M.A.S Subramanian, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLA, spoke.
