TIRUR: Curtain will rise on the five-day Thunchan Festival at Thunchan Parambu here on Wednesday. Organised by the Thunchan Memorial Trust, the festival will coincide with the Edassery centenary celebrations. A South Indian poets' meet will also be held on the occasion. The festivities will start with the recitation of Thunchan Ezhuthachan's poetry. Oriya writer and Saraswathi Samman laureate Pratibha Ray will inaugurate the literary festival at 9.30 a.m. Jnanpith laureate and chairman of the Thunchan Memorial Trust M.T. Vasudevan Nair will preside over the function. Indranath Chaudhari, former secretary of the Sahitya Akademi, will inaugurate the Edassery centenary seminar. Poet Akkitham will preside over the session. Critic Sukumar Azhikode will deliver the keynote address. Poet Sugathakumari will deliver the Thunchan memorial lecture on Wednesday afternoon. D. Jayakantan, writer, will deliver the `samvatsar lecture' later. Filmmaker Blessy will inaugurate the Thunchan Kalotsavam on Wednesday evening. V.K. Sasidharan will present a musical rendering of Edassery's poetry. Poet O.N.V. Kurup will inaugurate the South Indian Poets' Meet on February 4 morning. M.T. Vasudevan Nair will preside over the function. Lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi will inaugurate a seminar on `significance and relevance of poetry today'. A large number of poets from Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu will take part in the poets' meet.
