Actor Tom Alter's love for acting is well known. A less known fact, however, is that this multi-faceted Bollywood artiste is an ardent nature lover and serious about his commitment to conserving wildlife. In Delhi to take part in the launch of the Jim Corbett Trust this past week, the actor read from Jim Corbett's writings including a delightful account in the author's own words of how his bestseller "Man-eaters of Kumaon" came to be written. "I have heard and read many stories in my life and it is amazing how a person who was a shooter turned to become an animal lover and then decided to devote his entire life for the conservation of animals. We can still learn a few lessons from Corbett, who was among the first in the country to understand the need for conservation. Today the country needs more people like Corbett who understand the symbiotic relationship that we share with nature and are ready to put nature and the conservation first," he said. -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
