Rupee up marginally

MUMBAI: The rupee edged up to a new four-month closing peak of 44.11/12 a dollar on Tuesday in choppy trading at the interbank foreign exchange market after robust foreign portfolio investment inflows absorbed severe month-end pressures amid flaring crude oil prices.

Edging up by another one paisa from Monday's close of 44.12/13, the rupee rallied from the intraday low of 44.16.The rupee opened distinctly firm at 44.09/11 and hit an early high of 44.05/06.

The rupee has thus gained 15 paise in four straight trading sessions.
