New coalition will be a success, says BJP leader Yediyurappa

M. Raghuram

`Both parties on same wavelength, will focus on development of State'

MANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister-designate B.S. Yediyurappa is confident of the success of the new Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition as both the parties are on the same wavelength and have accepted that the Government should focus on the development of the State.

Speaking to The Hindu here on his way from Dharmasthala to Kannur on Tuesday, Mr. Yediyurappa said he and Chief Minister-designate H.D. Kumara- swamy will be meeting the former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee in New Delhi on Wednesday to seek his guidance.

Mr. Kumaraswamy considers the development model practised by the NDA government under Mr. Vajpayee as the best suited for Karnataka, the BJP leader said. This model will make the State economically stronger and leave no room for corruption. It will also ensure optimum efficiency of government machinery, particularly in implementing programmes meant for the poor.

CMP soon

When asked how the new coalition would function when both partners share a different socio-political ideology, Mr. Yediyurappa said the two parties will come up with a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) soon after the swearing-in ceremony on Friday.

The CMP will include several programmes to set right the wrongs committed by the previous government.

On ideology, Mr. Yediyurappa said Mr. Kumaraswamy is a forward looking political leader and not the kind of person who will be bogged down with what he called pseudo-ideologies of the Congress and the "old-generation" Janata Dal (S).

Mr. Kumaraswamy understands the BJP's stand on minorities and appreciates the "realistic concerns" that the party has pertaining to the development of the minorities. This understanding will further strengthen the ties between the two parties, he said.

Dakshina Kannada in general and Mangalore in particular will be given priority in development, but Mr. Kumaraswamy will announce the details later, he said.

Visits Dharmasthala

Mr. Yediyurappa earlier had a darshan of Lord Manjunatha at the Dharmasthala temple and met the dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, D. Veerendra Heggade.

He left for Kannur in Kerala immediately afterwards.
