CHENNAI:
A.I. Ravi Arumugam, Additional Director-General of Police, Tamil Nadu, and Director of Prosecution, Chennai, died here on Tuesday. He was 57. A sudden and massive brain haemorrhage led to multi-organ failure and death. He is survived by two daughters.
Born at Sendamaram in Tirunelveli district, Ravi Arumugam was a graduate in civil engineering. He got his postgraduate degree in law and later Ph.D on "The role of police in the eradication of untouchability with reference to the PCR Act in Tamil Nadu."
Belonging to the 1972 batch of IPS, he served in various capacities, including as Superintendent of Police, (then) Chengalpattu-East police district, Additional Commissioner, Chennai, and Additional Director-General, Headquarters. He became Director of Prosecution in June 2001 and continued in the post till his death. He was a recipient of the President's police medal for meritorious service-1998.
Ravi Arumugam wrote a book in Tamil "Panithulikkul Oru Paarkadal." He also translated Shri Aurobindo's Savitri in Tamil.
