50 students taken ill
after breakfast
Our Cuddalore Special Correspondent reports: Over 50 inmates of the hostel attached to Nandanar Boys Higher Secondary School in Chidambaram fell sick after having breakfast on Tuesday. One of the students reportedly found a wall lizard in the curd rice. This triggered nausea in some boys. They were rushed to the government hospital in an ambulance. While 18 students were admitted, the rest were treated as outpatients in the Government Hospital here. Chidambaram Sub-Collector Arun Rai who visited the hostel found the sanitary conditions poor and recommended the suspension of the chief warden. Killai Ravichandran, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam deputy convenor, alleged that it was sixth incident of its kind in the hostel. He blamed it on poor maintenance and lack of concern for the health of the inmates.
