DMK flays Government on cable TV Bill
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer, Arcot N.Veerasamy, on Tuesday flayed the State Government for getting the Tamil Nadu Acquisition, Transfer and Taking Over of the Administration of Cable Television Network (including Multiple Service Optical Transport System) Bill, 2006 passed in the Assembly.
In a statement here he said neither Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, nor her counterparts in other States had the powers to go into complaints against cable television networks. The task had been assigned to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Mr. Veerasamy also accused the Government of passing the Bill without taking a judgment of the Madras High Court in 2000 into account. The Opposition was not given adequate opportunity to express its views on the Bill in the House, he said.
