NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to take action against politicians, including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Mayor Satbir Singh, on whom it had served notices for allegedly violating building by-laws, and file a status report on February 16, the next date of hearing. A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma issued the direction when MCD informed the Court that it had served notices on the Chief Minister, Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh, Finance Minister A. K. Walia, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma, MLAs and Councillors asking them to explain why action not be taken against them for violating building by-laws. The MCD told the Bench in an Action Taken Report (ATR) that in compliance of the Court order of January 9 in which the local body was asked to file the ATR in respect of properties owned/managed by MLAs and Councillors, it had served notices on the Chief Minister, six MLAs and four Councillors. The MCD would examine replies to the notices and after considering them and examining the buildings owned by these personalities, action would be taken against them, the ATR said. The ATR assured the Court that the MCD would implement the law equally for all and that there would be no discrimination in demolition action.
