Delray Beach (U.S.): Eight-time Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi got off to a strong start at the ATP Delray Beach championships with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over 2004 champion Ricardo Mello. Agassi skipped the recent Australian Open due to injury. The top seed joined Robby Ginepri, defending champion Xavier Malisse and Tommy Haas as the top four seeds and was the only one of the quartet in action on Monday.
Gaudio posts win
Top-seeded Gaston Gaudio beat Chilean wild card Felipe Parada 6-1, 6-4 in a successful start to the defence of his Movistar Open title at Vina Del Mar in Chile.
Hantuchova rallies
Sixth seed Daniela Hantuchova overcame a slow start to beat Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Montenegro in the first round of the Pan Pacific Open tennis tournament in Tokyo on Tuesday. The Slovakian came back from one set and 0-3 down in the final set to score a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win and stayed on course for a re-match against defending champion Maria Sharapova.
