HYDERABAD : Mala Mahanadu will intensify its campaign against SC sub-categorisation and approach all national parties to explain the fallout of any move to bring in an amendment to revive the quota. J. Prabhakar Rao, its president, at a press conference here on Tuesday described as `unfortunate' Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's recent announcement to consider the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti's demand to revive the quota through an amendment. He said the Chief Minister had also assured the Mala Mahanadu of protecting their interest, wondering how the Government could find a solution to the contentious issue by holding out assurances to both groups. Mr. Rao pointed out that a special development package for the uplift of SCs alone would solve the problem. He warned that the organisation would not keep quiet if the Government pushed for the amendment. He wanted an expert committee, headed by former bureaucrat S.R. Sankaran, to study the status of dalits, particularly Madigas and Malas. The committee should suggest a package for the uplift of dalits. The Mala Mahanadu executive would meet on February 5 to take stock of the movement.
