THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said that the CPI (M) stand on the recent Cabinet decision on backward class representation in Government services is "intriguing." Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Chennithala said CPI (M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had been unable to grasp the intricacies of the Cabinet decision. He had also been feigning ignorance. The CPI(M) had not come forward with any alternative proposal during the four and odd years it had been around. "The CPI (M) was waiting for the UDF to commit a mistake to capitalise on it. Unfortunately, this did not happen. That party's silence is an affront to the people of the State," he observed. With regard to the SNC Lavalin case, he reiterated the demand that the Government should table the Accountant General's report in the Assembly. The public and the MLAs should be aware of the actual position. As for the Vigilance probe into the issue, there should not be any further delay. In reply to a question on whether the Government was serious about taking action in the case, Mr. Chennithala said the onus was on Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan to respond to the demand for tabling the report in the Assembly. Mr. Chennithala said the office-bearers and DCC presidents' meeting had passed two resolutions. The first one congratulated Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and the second one lauded Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the United Democratic Front (UDF) for resolving the Narendran Commission report implementation through a consensus. He said a full-fledged State Congress session would be held from March 2 to 6. Congress president Sonia Gandhi would inaugurate the rally on March 3. The sessions would discuss the socio-political and economic situations prevailing in the State on the lines of the AICC plenary at Hyderabad. It would also evolve strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections, he added. Congress leaders from Tripura and West Bengal would be special invitees. Mr. Chennithala said the Congress would soon launch its door-to-door family contact campaign in the run-up to the elections.
