Srikakulam: Senior officials of the irrigation department, on Tuesday, assured members of Zilla Parishad standing committee that there was no need to worry over the irrigation projects built across the Vamsadhara, by the other riparian State, Orissa. As per the agreement, we have the right to make use of 35 tmc of water. They would also make use of their share of 35 trmc of water and not more than that, officials told the meeting. ZP Chairman Y.V. Suryanarayana presided over the meeting. ZP vice-chairman Choudary Narayana Murthy said that the Collector ordered release of water to the right canal of Narayanapuram project in order to save crops on 4,000 acres. Officials informed the meeting that Rs.15 crores had been allotted for Thotapalli reservoir works. The preliminary survey of the up-shore reservoir on the Mahendratanaya was complete. Proposals for taking up minor irrigation works to the tune of Rs. 17.60 crores had also been finalised.
