ALAPPUZHA : The Alappuzha municipality is organising a proclamation rally in the town from Bhattathiripurayidom to the municipal grounds on February 2 afternoon as a part of its ``Clean Alappuzha-Save Alappuzha'' programme, municipal chairman P.P. Chitharanjan has said. The rally is aimed at creating awareness among the public on the need to keep the municipality free from garbage. At a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Chitharanjan said the rally would begin at 3 p.m. and would reach the municipal ground at 4 p.m. Those who are expected to participate in the rally include students from various colleges and schools, members of self-help groups, workers of various social and cultural organisations and members of various residents' associations, said Mr. Chitharanjan. A proclamation meeting would be held at the municipal ground when the rally reached there. Minister for Public Works M.K. Muneer will inaugurate the meeting. Tourism Minister K.C. Venugopal will preside over the function. Film actor Jayaram would administer the oath to the participants. K.S. Manoj, MP, would deliver the keynote address. Other speakers at the function include district panchayat president R. Nazar, District Collector K.R. Muraleedharan, film actor Rajan P. Dev, municipal vice-chairman Elgin Richard and Leader of the Opposition in the council A.A. Shukkoor. Various entertainment programmes would be held after the meeting.
