ONGOLE: A picture depicting Prakasam Panthulu, Ongole bull and Chimakurthi galaxy granite has been selected as logo for Prakasam district formation day celebrations beginning here on February 2. The logo made by Nalam Nagaraju of Chekurupadu village in Nagaluppalapadu mandal has been adjudged best from among 12 entries received here on Tuesday. Releasing the logo at a press conference here, MLAs, M. Mahidhara Reddy, B. Sreenivasa Reddy and Dara Sambaiah, said that Prakasam district formed 36 years ago with backward areas of Guntur, Nellore and Kurnool districts, had made rapid strides in development.
Horticulture mission
Large areas had been brought provided with irrigation facility under Nagarjuna Sagar project, the district achieved international fame for its galaxy granite, Ongole bulls, FCV tobacco, Ulavapadu mangoes, aqua culture etc. It had undertaken three major irrigation projects under Jalayagnam. Horticulture mission would be launched in the district during the celebrations. Several great persons like Yerrapragada, Tyagaraja hailed from this district. They said that eminent persons like NIMS director, Prasadarao, Padma Vibhushan, B.P. Rao would be felicitated on the last day. Cultural programmes are being organised with eminent teams from Hyderabad besides encouraging local talent. Sobha Naidu would give her dance performance on February 4, Yella Venkateswara Rao would play mridangam on February 6. Efforts were being made to invite S.P. Balasubramayam for a musical nite. Burrakadha will be performed on Feb 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Nazer. Padya Natakams like Chintamani, Harischandra, Gayopakhyanam, Srikrishna Rayabaram would be staged after 8.30 am every day. At least one or two scenes would be performed in each play depending upon response from audience. Food courts are being organized to present various delicacies from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The reception committee expects that large number of people from rural areas would take part in various competitions held for youth, women, kisans etc.
