BANGALORE: The former National heptathlete Reeth Abraham of Corporation Bank claimed golds in long jump, shot put and javelin events in the over-40 women's section of the State Masters athletic championships, which was held here last week. Her team-mate and former international Vandana Rao secured a gold in the 200m race. Raymond D'Souza also of Corporation Bank bagged a bronze in hammer throw event. About 400 athletes from all over the state participated in the meet.
State invitation volleyball
An inter-state invitation volleyball tournament for men will be organised by Santosh Youth Club, Madikeri from February 10 to 12. Teams from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will participate in the event. The Karnataka teams in the fray are ASC, MEG, LIC, KSP, Sports Hostel. ICF (Chennai), Mayor's Club (Hyderabad), Cochin Port Trust and Kerala Road Transport Corp are the other teams.
TFI office-bearers
T. Praveen Kumar of Karnataka was elected secretary general of the Taekwondo Federation of India at its annual general body meeting held at Karnal on January 26. Harish Kumar of Haryana was elected president The other office-bearers: Y. Khemchand, Gopal Chandra Roy (vice-presidents), Vinayak Gaikwad (treasurer), P. Selvamani , Raj Kakti, D.S. Garicha (joint secretaries), R.D. Mangueshkar, Ajay Kumar and Surinder Bhandoria (committee members).
Wipro wins title
Wipro technologies defeated Oracle 3-1 and claimed the inter-corporate table tennis tournament conducted here by the Events Unlmited here recently. Vivek Kini of Wipro and Ranjini of GE Group emerged as the men's and women's individual champions respectively. The former National champion Chetan Baboor presided and gave away the prizes.
Chess tournament
The C.V. Raman Chess Club will conduct its monthly tournament at the KNI Art Gallery in Jayanagar here on February 5. For details, call 9845190200.
Inter-collegiate cricket
The Peoples Education Society (PES) will conduct a State level inter-collegiate cricket tournament here from February 13. For details, call 9845040372. M.S. Ramaiah College of law will conduct its second inter-law colleges cricket tournament here from February 6 to 9 at the HMT grounds. Eight teams will participate in the tournament.
Ball badminton tournament
The all-India inter-University ball badminton tournament for men will be held at the Annamalai University (Chidambaram) from February 3 to 6.
