Civic chief walks out of council meet

Staff Reporter

NALGONDA: Annoyed by the "personal comments" made against her by a Telugu Desam Party member, Municipal Commissioner of Bhongir V.Kanyakumari walked out of the council meeting on Tuesday.

Amid pandemonium in the House, the member K. Amarender blamed the commissioner for the sorry state of affairs in the council. As the member went on making comments against her on personal level, the officer went out of the meeting hall.

"I am hurt by the baseless allegations made by the member. In fact, he was not supposed to address me in the meeting," Ms.Kanyakumari told The Hindu over phone. Chairperson Donakonda Vanita's attempt to assuage the feelings of the officer proved futile.

Later, the TDP and BJP members charged the chairperson with committing irregularities in the appointment of Kamatis (village-level workers). However, the municipal commissioner dared them to prove the allegations.
