KARIMNAGAR: Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Laxmaiah ridiculed the TDP leaders' padayatra for execution of projects on the Godavari when several projects were progressing at a rapid pace in the region. At a press meet here, he alleged that the TDP leaders who neglected farming sector during their nine-year regime, were now shedding crocodile tears for farmers for political mileage.
On Inchampalli
On the ambitious inter-State Inchampalli project on the Godavari, he said that the Government was committed towards execution of the project after getting consent from Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, as majority of forests of these States would be submerged under the project. He said that the state irrigation officials were already holding discussions with the two States about the project.
100 p.c. irrigation
He also said that they would provide cent per cent irrigation facilities to Karimnagar, Warangal and Nizamabad districts with the linkage of Yellampalli and Pranahita projects. The Minister clarified that lands were being acquired for the projects only after taking farmers' consent and after handing out appropriate compensation. There was no discrimination of any section of farmers. The Government whip D Sridhar, and the Markfed chairman Ponnam Prabhakar were present.
