Authorities revoke removal order; to abide by decision of fact-finding panel

  • Furore after pregnant tribal dies in hospital
  • Nurse too suspended for `negligence'
  • Doctors, staff stage dharna

NIZAMABAD: Doctors and nurses of the district headquarters hospital, here staged a dharna in front of the hospital on Tuesday, protesting against the removal of a duty doctor from service and suspension of a staff nurse following their alleged negligence in treating a pregnant tribal woman.

Later, the hospital administration pending enquiry agreed to revoke the removal and suspension orders. The decision was taken in the talks held between doctors' representatives and the hospital Superintendent, Bhanumurthy on Tuesday.

    The incident

The duty doctor, Naveen who was on contract and the nurse, Shobha were accused of being negligent in attending to the tribal woman, Bhulibhai who died of labour pains in the hospital on Monday.

The authorities took the action against the hospital staff immediately as the victim's relatives and public launched an agitation. An enquiry was also ordered into the incident.

    Doctors' version

Doctors and hospital staff said that there was no negligence on their part and the patient was admitted to the hospital in very critical condition.

A lone doctor was on duty and was attending to about 60 patients including a serious burn case at that time.

They said lack of doctors and medical facilities was a huge problem at the hospital. Only 12 doctors were attending to all the patients. Only one doctor is on duty during nights, they said.

At the discussion, both sides agreed that they should abide by the decision of a fact-finding committee constituted by the AP Vaidya Vidana Parishad which will come here on Wednesday.
