CHENNAI: United Amateur Artistes' (UAA) latest laughter riot Kadhalikka Neramundu, written by Chitralaya Sriram, has now come out in the form of VCDs and DVDs. The discs, created by Swathi Soft Solutions, were released at the 100th stage show of the play. Y.Gee. Mahendraa, who now leads UAA, was felicitated on the occasion. UAA was founded in 1952 and has staged 5,000 shows of its 53 plays. Veteran actor A.R. Srinivasan recalled the glorious days of UAA under the late Y.G. Parthasarathy. Retired judge K.S. Bhaktavatsalam lauded Mr. Mahendraa's spirit in keeping the UAA flag flying high amidst stiff competition from cinema and the small screen. Singer S. Janaki, director S.V. Ramanan and Mrs. Y.G. Parthasarathy offered their felicitations.
A sidelight
Superstar Rajnikant had sometime back watched the play. When asked which scene he had liked best, he reportedly said: "in which scene did you not make me laugh?" Mr. Mahendraa attributed the success and longevity of the UAA to the contributions of his troupe members. He plans to hold a grand theatre festival soon for which he sought the support of the audience. To buy the VCD or DVD of Kadhalikka Neramundu contact 42316060.
