BANGALORE: The Indira Nagar police have arrested a woman and two men and recovered gold and diamond ornaments estimated at Rs. 9 lakhs from them. The police gave the names of the arrested persons as Shanti of Rajarajeswari Nagar, her son Chandrakumar and Subramanyachari. According to the police, Shanti, a native of Vellore in Tamil Nadu, who used to work as a housekeeper in many houses stole these ornaments from there. She asked Subramanyachari and Chandrakumar to sell the ornaments. With the arrest, the police claimed to have solved seven cases of theft reported from Indira Nagar, Ulsoor, Fraser Town and Bharati Nagar police stations.
Eight held
The Banaswadi police have arrested eight persons and recovered the ornaments allegedly stolen by them from a jewellery shop. The police gave the names of the accused as Nadeem (18), Waseem (19), Faizu (21), Asad (26), Mujahid Pasha (20), Ayza (20), Mujahid Khan (20), and Rizwan (21). According to the police, Nadeem was a salesman at the jewellery shop on OPH Road. The police said he stole jewels from the shop every week and gave it to his brother, Wasim, and the others. They sold the jewels at Raja Market, Cottonpet and Tilak Nagar, the police said.
Arrested
The Rajaji Nagar police have arrested six persons on the charge of burglary and recovered Rs. 6.25 lakhs in cash from them. According to the police, the accused waylaid Venkatesh and Habib on January 10 on Vatal Nagaraj Road in Rajaji Nagar and took away a bag containing Rs. 9.73 lakhs. The incident occurred when Venkatesh and Habib were returning after collecting the cash from R.M.C. Yard. The police gave the names of the accused as Shabir Ahmed (20), Altaf (25), Firoz Pasha (22), Tanvir Pasha (21), Amjad (21) and Abdul Nazir (21). A search is on for two more persons.
Arrested
The City Crime Branch police have arrested six persons on the charge of robbery on highways. The police recovered a vehicle, machetes, sickles and chilli powder. The accused persons attacked people on the Pune-Bangalore Highway and robbed them of valuables, the police said. The police gave the names of the accused as Syed Asif (25), Mohammad Nadeem (19), Jaheer Ahmed (25), Syed Naveed (22), Mohammed Basha (19) and Gajendra (18).
