BANGALORE: MLA from Mumbai Arun Gawli was subjected to a polygraph (lie-detector) test at the Forensic Science Laboratory here on Tuesday.

The test was conducted by a team of experts led by B.M. Mohan, director of the laboratory, to ascertain Mr. Gawli's role in the "supari" deal against film director Madhur Bhandarkar.

"In the two-hour test, questions relating to the alleged offer made by actress Preeti Jain to Mr. Gawli's alleged aide, Naresh Pardesi, to allegedly murder Mr. Bhandarkar, were posed to Mr. Gawli. He [Mr. Gawli] cooperated with us," Dr. Mohan said and added that a report would be sent within two days.

The Mumbai police have arrested Ms. Jain and Mr. Pardesi, on the charge of hatching a plan to murder Mr. Bhandarkar. It is said that Ms. Jain paid Rs. 70,000 to Mr. Pardesi for eliminating Mr. Bhandarkar, who allegedly exploited her physically.

Talking to presspersons later, Mr. Gawli said the Mumbai police were not investigating the case properly. Witnesses in the case, including himself, were being treated like accused persons. He said he was innocent and he did not know Mr. Pardesi. The police were trying to implicate him by giving a clean chit to Ms. Jain, he alleged.

Mr. Gawli said the Maharashtra Home Minister had given a free hand to the police to investigate the case. He sought a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the way the police were investigating the case.

The Mumbai police subjected Ms. Jain to a lie-detector test in September 2005. Mr. Pardesi too was subjected to one, besides brain mapping and narco-analysis in Bangalore.
