Vivekananda awards to be presented

COIMBATORE: The Vivekananda National Award for Excellence will be presented on February 3 and 4 during the valedictory function of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya here.

The function started on January 27. Drawing and oratory competitions and quiz were held for schoolstudents. The main programme will start on February 1.

The recipients of the award are N. Mahalingam, chairman, Sakthi Group of Companies; G. K. Sundaram, chairman, Lakshmi Mills Limited; K. Subramanian, former principal, Vivekananda College, Thiruvedagam; K. Meenakshisundaram, former director of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu; T. K. Govindaraj, musician; V.C. Kulandaiswami, former Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU; B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore; Dr. R.M. Vasagam, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. MGR University; and Dr. S. Muralidharan, Chief Cardiothoracic surgeon, GKNM Hospital.

On February 1, the third national championship for the disabled will be inaugurated by R. Ratton Singh, president, Indian Para Olympics. A seminar on ancient history of India as per the evidence of Indian scriptures and archaeology will be inaugurated on the same day.

An image of Maruthi and a bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda will be unveiled as part of the valedictory function.

On February 5, an inter-school dance competition will be held. The same day, a saxophone programme by Kadri Gopalnath has been organised after the public meeting, a release here has said.
