THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The inmates of the Mental Health Centre (MHC), Peroorkada, on Tuesday had to endure a tiresome wait under the sun as the centre's New Year feast scheduled to begin at noon had a delayed start owing to the late arrival of the chief guest. By the time the chief guest, district collector N. Ayyappan, who got delayed on account of a prior meeting, arrived, the inmates were idling outside the dining hall of the centre. The New Year feast was organised as a part of a Government directive issued, to conduct special feast for the inmates on Onam, Christmas, Bakrid and New Year, following a visit to the centre by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy last year. As many as 550 inmates, their family members and staff took part in the feast. Though for most inmates the food was served inside their individual cells, patients who showed `signs of recovery' were seated along with Mr. Ayyappan in the dining hall.
