CHANDIGARH: Haryana Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav on Wednesday said that flood control schemes worth Rs.163 crores had been approved by the Haryana Flood Control Board headed by the Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, here on Tuesday evening. Giving the break-up, he said that the State Irrigation Department would implement schemes worth Rs. 140 crores and the Public Health Department Rs. 23 crores. These schemes also included an investment of Rs. 84 crores to save the five districts of Jind, Hisar, Bhiwani, Rohtak and Jhajjar. He pointed out that Rs. 20 crores had been spent so far on various flood protection schemes this financial year. Mr.Hooda, who reviewed the ongoing and new schemes threadbare with the senior officers, directed them to follow time schedule of various projects and speed up the pace of work. The Chief Secretary, Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary, said that the funds should be utilised judiciously and within the time schedule to ensure timely completion of projects. She said that while undertaking flood protection works, wherever possible, storage of flood water should also be considered to recharge ground water. Those present included the Agriculture Minister, H.S.Chatha, Financial Commissioners and Principal Secretaries and senior officers.
