City girl's feat

Indian Society of Periodontology has awarded a merit certificate to Divya Uppala, a city girl, for standing first in periodontology in the final year BDS exam, 2005. Ms. Divya, who did her schooling at Timpany, completed her degree from Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital, Chennai.

Temple anniversary

Kali temple of Ukkunagaram will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Thursday by conducting bhajans by 25 Hare Krishna devotees from Russia and special discourse by ISKCON city president Samba Das.

Anti-leprosy day observed

Religious harmony and anti-leprosy day was observed at Premasamajan on Monday. VUDA Vice-Chairman G. Venkatram Reddy remembered Mahatma Gandhi and successfully leading the independence movement with ahimsa and satyagraha as weapons. Well-known scholar Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry, District Leprosy Officer P. Rajendra Prasad, samajam president GSK Arya and vice-president Kandala Srinivasa Rao spoke.

Award for artist

P.A. Bhaskara Rao, an artist from the city, has been selected for Kalabhushan award by Utkal Yuva Sanskrutik Sangh of Cuttack.
