Efforts on to evolve consensus on Telangana, says Manmohan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said that efforts were on to evolve a broad-based consensus on creation of separate Telangana.

"There is a commitment that is mentioned in the Common Minimum Programme about the creation of Telangana," Dr. Singh said.

"We have to evolve a broad-based consensus to move forward. Efforts are on to evolve such a consensus," Dr. Singh said.

He was responding to a question on his Government's view on creation of smaller States such as Vidarbha and Telangana.

Creation of Telangana is the main plank of the United Progressive Alliance partner's Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).- PTI
