Sankararaman case hearing on February 15

PONDICHERRY: Principal Sessions Judge M. Chinnapandi on Thursday posted the hearing in the Kanchi Sankararaman murder case to February 15, after defence counsel K.S. Dinakaran told the court that they had filed a revision petition in the Madras High Court, challenging the sessions court order on the appearance of Special Public Prosecutor, Special Investigating Team, Tamil Nadu, in the case.

"The petition is likely to be taken up tomorrow," he said and sought time till it was disposed of. The PSJ had dismissed petitions filed by the Kanchi Acharyas challenging the continuation of public prosecutors appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government in the case in the Union Territory.

When the case came up for hearing, SPP T. Balasundaram said that they were ready to commence arguments in the case to enable the court to frame charges. He also listed out eight main charges against the accused and presented a draft copy of the charges to the judge, which the court declined to receive. The Kanchi Sankaracharya and other accused excluding the junior Acharya Vijayendra Saraswathi and Sundaresa Iyer appeared before the court. Separate petitions seeking to dispense with the appearance of the two were filed in the court.
