Foreign national questioned

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 73-year-old American national travelling on business visa was questioned by the city police on Thursday following an intelligence report that he was scheduled to speak at a religious function in Amaravila this week.

The police identified the person as Terrell David Heze. An official said he was questioned after the rural police special branch came across pamphlets, which announced that Terell would "preach" at a religious function hosted by the Church of South India (CSI).

Terell had travelled to Kerala along with two other U.S. nationals who were on tourist visa. They were identified by the police as Meter Carl Michael (51) and Taylor David Lee (47). An official said that Carl was secretary to Terell while Taylor was his bodyguard.

City Police Commissioner Dinendra Kashyap said the foreigners had not committed any offence or violated visa conditions in his jurisdiction. He said the police had received unconfirmed reports that Terell had spoken at a religious function in Tamil Nadu.

The police told the foreign nationals of the visa conditions they were bound to observe. Terrell also gave the police a written undertaking that he would not participate in any religious function in India without the prior sanction of the Union Government. The police have sent a report of the development to the Central Intelligence Bureau. Terrell and his group left Kerala on Thursday morning.
