Weather gives a whiff of mango season

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The nights are still cold but the days decidedly warm till late afternoon, reminding us that summer and the mango season cannot be far. Last year's unusually heavy rain may tell on the quantity and quality of mangoes this summer, we are told.

In some of the mango-growing belts of Kolar district, mango trees are yet to flower, and farmers are worried. Of Karnataka's total mango production, Kolar district accounts for 35 per cent, according to the Horticulture Department. Of course, we get the king of fruits from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu too.
