No trace of the two-and-a-half-year-old girl for the last three days despite all efforts

HYDERABAD : Whenever she hears the voice of a child, Soni fervently prays it is that of her two-and-half-year-old daughter Shruthi. But when the realisation dawns that it is some other child, the mother slips into silence.

It has been already three days since her daughter went missing, allegedly victim of yet another kidnap in the city, from their house at Yousuffain Dargah in Nampally.

"She mostly has milk only. I shudder to think how my child is surviving now," says a desolate Soni.

What pains her more is the fact that the child was taken away right in front of her. While Soni lives with her mother and two brothers, her husband Raghuveer Singh is an armed reserve police constable in Adilabad district. The couple was blessed with a son two months ago.

On Monday, she was cleaning the house when she spotted a person carrying away the child. She raised alarm and alerted her mother Savithramma, who was in their dairy store downstairs.

By the time she came down and Savithramma too could run onto the street, the man disappeared with the child.

Later, neighbours said they identified the person as Majid, who till a month ago worked in a nearby roadside eatery. As news spread, relatives and other family members began searching in vain for Majid.

    Praying for her safety

"Except `mummy' and `daddy', my granddaughter cannot say anything. I pray the Almighty sends her safely back to us," says Savithramma.
