Haas overcomes Pavel

DELRAY BEACH (U.S.): Fourth-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany beat Andrei Pavel of Romania 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 7-5 on Thursday to move into the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach tennis championships.

Ljubicic in quarterfinals

At Zagreb (Croatia), top-seeded Ivan Ljubicic defeated Kenneth Carlsen 7-6(5), 6-4 and was the only seed to survive to the quarterfinals at the Zagreb indoor tournament.

Hingis enters semifinals

At Tokyo, top-seeded Maria Sharapova defeated Australia's Samantha Stosur 6-1, 6-4 on Friday to set up a semifinal showdown with Martina Hingis at the Pan Pacific Open. Former World No. 1 Hingis faced little resistance from Maria Kirilenko, downing the Russian 6-2, 6-1.
