NEW DELHI: Anju George will compete in the second Asian Indoor championships to be held at Pattaya, Thailand, from February 10 to 12. Anju and husband-coach Bobby George, engaged in a training programme at Potchefstroom, South Africa, are expected to return home on Sunday and leave for Bangkok on February 7. Ranked fourth in the world, the Kerala long jumper is eyeing precious ranking points at Pattaya in an effort to move up to the No. 2 position behind Russian Tatyana Kotova. The Asian indoor meet offers points equivalent to a Super Grand Prix meet.
No change
The women's long jump rankings have not undergone any change since September 12 last year when Anju (1234 points) moved to the fourth spot behind Tatayana Kotova (Rus-1325), Grace Upshaw (USA-1241) and Oksana Udmurtova (Rus-1236). Anju will require a performance of around 6.43 and the first place or around 6.51 and the second place at Pattaya to move up to the second rank, provided of course the others ahead of her do not record better performances elsewhere.
