THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An exhibition of Tanjore style "gold paintings" will open at the Museum auditorium on Saturday. The paintings by Anjali Srivastava, wife of Director General of Police Raman Sreevastava, mainly reflect ancient Indian themes. The artist has used thin gold foil and semi-precious stones to create detailed images of Hindu Gods. The paintings also recreate moments from the court life of Indian kings and queens. The exhibition would include recent works such as `Balaji,' `Dancing Ganesha,' `Velankanni Matha,' `Hanuman,' `Gajalakshmi,' `Indian princess in full regalia,' `Traditional Indian Bride,' `Lord Shiva in Repose,' `Yashoda and Krishna,' `Lady With The Rose,' `Radha and Krishna', among others. The works are inspired by the travels undertaken by the artist. She had the opportunity to visit palaces in Rajasthan and interact with artists and also members of former ruling families. The artist describes herself as a recent entrant into the wide world of paintings. It was only four years ago that Anjali Srivastava discovered there was a painter in her.
