AASU's warning to ULFA
Sushanta Talukdar
GUWAHATI:
The All-Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Friday warned the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) against "maligning the student body" and reiterated that it supported neither secessionism nor the ULFA's demand for an "independent Assam."
The AASU also asked ULFA to come clean on the issues of spurt in ISI activities, influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and activities of fundamentalist organisations imparting arms training in Assam.
The AASU was reacting to the ULFA allegation that its general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi was an "agent of intelligence agencies." In its mouthpiece Freedom, the ULFA, reacting to the AASU statement that the student body did not support the demand for "independent Assam," claimed Mr. Gogoi's views did not reflect the opinion of majority of the AASU members.
